Nationwide lock down continues to further notice

Mongolia is the least densely populated nation on Earth. As a nation, we ’re pretty socially distant by default. However, capital Ulaanbaatar has an urban population of 1.5 million people. That’s quite enough for COVID-19 to snack on.Coronavirus didn’t leave Mongolia alone. Mongolian authorities responded to the confirmation of the country's first locally transmitted coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case on Wednesday, November 11, by ordering a five-day nationwide lockdown on November 12.


Under the lockdown measures, grocery stores, supermarkets, food markets, petrol stations, pharmacies, hospitals, and power plants are among the few businesses permitted to continue operating. Residents will only be able to leave home to purchase essential goods or attend work if they are unable to work from home. Schools have closed in nationwide. The wearing of face masks remains mandatory and large gatherings are banned.


The government also plans to cease repatriation flights from Friday, November 13, until further notice, with commercial flights remaining banned. Mongolia will also close land border crossings from Monday, November 16. Mongolia's State Emergency Commission (SEC) has extended the national heightened state of readiness until December 31.

As of December 4, 2020, there have been 831 confirmed cases of COVID -19 in Mongolia. 365 recovered 0 death registering.


Many people who were travelling from countryside to capital Ulaanbaatar were stuck and was not able to go home during the lockdown period. Thus, starting from December 4, domestic airlines HUNNU air and AERO MONGOLIA have began carrying local citizens who stranded constantly to prevent the infection of the pandemic.

Officials from Buyant-Ukhaa border specialized inspection department in cooperation with civil aviation police department and safety and security service of the National Civil Aviation Center are working to ensure the coronavirus regime at the airport, reminding passengers to get their temperatures checked, wear masks, use hand sanitizer and to be served, keeping a distance of 1,5 to 2 meters from each other.
