To commemorate the 750th anniversary of the discovery of the ship of Kublai Khan’s naval fleet during the Mongol Empire and the historical events related to it, the National Center for Cultural Heritage has commissioned the production and sale of the “Khublai Khan’s Fleet” commemorative coin to promote cultural heritage and raise public awareness of the historical event.

The commemorative coin was unveiled at the “International Symposium on 750 Years of History after Kublai Khan’s Invasion of Japan” event at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan.

The obverse of the coin depicts the wooden hull of a ship that sank at the time, discovered during underwater archaeological excavations at the bottom of the sea, and a computer-generated model of Kublai Khan's boat floating in the ocean.

The coin also features the words "Khublai Khan's Fleet" at the top and the name of the island "Takashima" where the artifact was discovered at the bottom.
