#Ulaanbaatar and Tashkent direct flight to be launched
The first Meeting of the Mongolia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economy, Science, and Technology Cooperation took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on February 6-7, 2025. The meeting marked a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries across various sectors.
Key outcomes from the meeting include:
Trade and Agricultural Cooperation: Both sides agreed to enhance the export and supply of agricultural products, including leather, hides, wool, and cashmere, from Mongolia to Uzbekistan. They also decided to organize a "Made in Uzbekistan" Trade Fair in Ulaanbaatar later in the year.
Transportation Development: In line with the "Agreement on Aviation Relations" signed during Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa's State Visit to Uzbekistan in 2024, the two countries agreed to launch regular flights between Ulaanbaatar and Tashkent in the second half of 2025. The first session of the Mongolia-Uzbekistan Joint Committee on Transport was also held, focusing on establishing a new road corridor and initiating pilot transport of goods.
Energy and Mining Cooperation: The two sides agreed to expand collaboration in the energy and mining sectors, particularly in geological surveys, exploration, extraction, processing, and mineral beneficiation.
Education, Science, and Cultural Exchange: Both parties pledged to strengthen cooperation in education, science, and technology by fostering collaboration among institutions, research centers, and universities. They also agreed to organize joint academic exchanges, symposiums, scientific conferences, concerts, and cultural events.
Environmental and Green Projects: The two countries agreed to align Mongolia’s “Billion Trees” National Movement with Uzbekistan’s “Green Space” project. This cooperation includes introducing Uzbek fruit tree saplings to Mongolia, establishing a horticultural farm in Mongolia’s Gobi region, and exploring the creation of a “Mongolia-Uzbekistan Friendship Park.”
This meeting represents a strong commitment to building a closer, mutually beneficial relationship between Mongolia and Uzbekistan in various fields, laying the foundation for more comprehensive and long-lasting cooperation in the years to come.
