Mongolian Bactrian camels are at their best in winter, covered in warm wool that insulates them form the temperature extremes. “Elsen tasarkhai” Mini Gobi is the best winter tour destination to discover beautiful landscape and golden sand covered with snow. These sand dunes stretch about 80 km. It is only 4-hour drive on paved road from Ulaanbaatar.
Elsen Tasarkhai is a very popular destination for Mongolians. In fact, of the wide expanse, a certain area of the golden sand is quite close to the tarmac road that travelers take when going on a journey to Kharkhorin or Karakorum, the ancient Mongol capital.
