The number of people from other countries working in Mongolia went up by 1,800 since the first part of last year (2024), said the National Statistics Office of Mongolia.
In the first part of this year (2025), about 9,900 people from 103 different countries have jobs in Mongolia with work agreements. Most of these workers are men (8,500), and fewer are women (1,400). There are more men than women in all age groups. Most of the workers, about 1,800, are between 35 and 39 years old. The smallest group is workers who are 20 or younger.
Looking at their education, 3,500 of these foreign workers have a bachelor's degree or went to university. Another 3,700 have certificates from technical schools. About 1,300 finished high school, and 1,100 went to college. Only 289 have master's or PhD degrees, and four people did not go to school.
Most of these foreign workers (60.2 percent) are from China. About 6.4 percent are from India, 5.3 percent are from Vietnam, and 4.9 percent are from the Philippines. Around 3.3 percent are from Russia, 2.9 percent from South Korea, and 2.8 percent from the United States. About 1.7 percent are from Turkey, 1.5 percent from Australia, and 11.1 percent are from other countries.
Where do they work? About 2,500 work in digging for resources like minerals. Another 1,300 work in schools. Around 1,200 work in selling things in stores or fixing cars and bikes. About 1,100 work in making things in factories, and another 1,100 work in building. About 608 work with moving things around (transportation and warehouses), and 1,500 work in other kinds of jobs. Also, 648 people work for big international groups or smaller parts of those groups in Mongolia. The number of foreign workers in mining went up a lot (by 747), but fewer foreign workers are in building jobs (down by 219).
